It has been quite a while since the last update on Nick. It would be great to report that Nick is 100%, but that is not the case. Nick is still using his walker to get around, but is using a four-pronged cane at home. His progress has slowed and physical therapy has terminated further sessions. Nick is now trying to build his strength back.
Nick is taking classes at North Idaho College and although it is difficult for him, he is doing well and loving the challenge. This semester he classes in math and small engine repair.
Nick's dexterity is improving with his left hand although his left leg is still difficult to lift and place. He has a device called a Bioness that sends electrical stimulation to his leg to aid in movement.
Nick has been driving and does very well except for the time he tangled with a semi and tore the fender off our van. Nothing dramatic. We have a different colored fender on our van as a reminder to Nick to keep away from semi's in the corners.
Even though it has been a long process, we still thank God that Nick is alive and improving. If it was slow before, it is slower now. Still, there is improvement as Nick gains strength. Nick's attitude has always been great and it sure helps. He feels that is two years, he will be back to one hundred per cent. We will help as best we can to get him there. He wants to go snow skiing in the worst way. He had all his ski gear out the other day, but could not get his left ski boot on. His foot would not cooperate. We will work on that with him.
God is not done with Nick. It's is an amazing thing to see miracles happen right in front of you. We have a lot to be thankful for.
God bless you all, Guy, Debby and Nick

hi Nick,
I was also an avid skiir, Having skiid from the time i was 8 and taking private lessons, my dad and i and the instructor. I totally understand this desire but half my body remains paralyzed so I've found alternative ways to spend my time.
I took physical and speech therapy for 7 years after my crash but when dad's Allstate insurance quit paying for it, I got a membership at a health club and continued exercising.
The bottom line is that if you want to do something bad enough, you will do it. You may not do it as nimbly or as gracefully as you hoped, but with God's help, you may do it far better than anyone would have guessed.
If you want to ski, don't worry about doing it gracefully, worry about doing it anyway. We are called to minister to others and your doing it anyway may be the example of strength and determination someone else needs to see.
